For the seventh year running, the Wyoming Film Office is seeking submissions for the Wyoming Short Film Contest. Film makers can submit their videos online at www.wyomingshortfilmcontest.com by April 4, 2014. A $25,000 first prize will be awarded to the winning entry with a storyline that takes place in Wyoming, features Wyoming, or presents the state as a major character.
Film Office representative Colin Stricklin explains the contest's origins, saying, "We wanted to give something back to the filmmaking community in Wyoming. A lot of our energy is spent working to attract major studio production, but the indies are the backbone of our industry. This contest was designed to encourage and support those people, and for one lucky Grand Prize winner each year, to help jumpstart a career."
The contest begins with a public vote/juror round, narrowing the field down to ten finalists. From there, a judging panel made up of film production, visual arts, and industry representatives selects the ultimate winner based on criteria including cinematography, screenplay, acting, sound design, editing and overall production value.
The Grand Prize winner will be announced May 2, 2014. For more information visit www.filmwyoming.com.
