ASHEVILLE, NC – A new event series at Highland Brewing pairs samples of craft food and beer in an affordable and casual setting. While flights of beer please the experiential imbiber, adding a flight of carefully crafted foods multiplies the fun and the options. Highland Brewing Company calls the series "Flights and Bites,” and it begins on March 4 from 4-8pm. At $8 for the flight and $8 for the bites, it’s a great value and a social event.
To prepare, representatives from Highland and the food producer meet to pick their favorite pairings. This meeting is not likely to be missed, as each person enjoys a flight of six beers, and six food options. Planning the events is Highland’s Molly McQuillan, who said, “Asheville is such a foodie town, yet there are so many local products that people eat without knowing they are eating them, or haven’t tried. Pairing beer with these items seems intuitive, but also provides an exciting way to expose people to new and tasty local products.”
Kicking off the series is Sunburst Trout Farms, also a family-o-owned company. Their bites board includes trout jerky, two types of smoked trout, trout caviar, their famous trout dip, and goat cheese pimiento. Attendees purchase bite boards separately from flight boards, which allows for snacking with a full pint if you prefer.
Coming up are these top-quality food producers: Poppy Handcrafted Popcorn, Green River Picklers, Hickory Nut Gap Farm, No Evil Foods, Looking Glass Creamery, French Broad Chocolate Lounge, Smoking J’s, and the Bee Charmer, with more to be added. Try the recommended pairings, or create your own. Look for upcoming dates at www.highlandbrewing.com on the homepage and the event calendar.
