Philadelphia City Rowing was Charity Beneficiary of Delaware Investments Annual Golf Outing at Fieldstone Golf Club

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – October 19, 2015 – Philadelphia City Rowing, which was established in 2010 to empower Philadelphia public school students through the sport of rowing, was selected as the charity beneficiary of Delaware Investments Annual Golf Outing on Monday, October 12 at Fieldstone Golf Club in Greenville, Delaware.

Shawn Lylte, President of Delaware Investments (a member of Macquarie Group), recently attended a practice session for Philadelphia City Rowing and addressed the students about the importance of education and hard work.

Funds raised through last Monday’s golf outing were matched by Macquarie Group.  These funds will support the Philadelphia City Rowing Middle School Program as well as the organization’s College Readiness Program.

Philadelphia City Rowing provides free programming for 7th through 12th grade students in the Philadelphia School District.  The organization provides mentoring, academic support, and a highly structured athletic program designed to reinforce the values that rowing instills. The program’s ultimate goals are to help local youth lead healthier lives, pursue a path to higher education, and reach their full potential.

About Philadelphia City Rowing:

Philadelphia City Rowing was founded based on the principle that rowing teaches discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, and works to reinforce these values and help student-athletes extend them to all aspects of their lives. To this end, Philadelphia City Rowing provides academic support services and a mentoring program that pairs student-athletes with adult role models from the rowing community.  Ultimately, Philadelphia City Rowing uses competitive rowing as a vehicle to improve the health, well-being, self-confidence and academic success of Philadelphia’s public school and charter school students while involving all participants in one of Philadelphia’s greatest sporting traditions.
