Fredericksburg, VA - With 8 hours left to give, The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region has already made history. They are running the region's first online giving day - The Community Give - with a goal of raising $100,000 by midnight. As of 12 noon, local nonprofits had already raised over $200,000 from over 2,000 individuals for great causes in the area.
"We knew our people were passionate about our region and today we are seeing just how passionate they are," said Teri McNally, Executive Director, Community Foundation, the group organizing The Community Give. "I'm very proud to say our community has a heart, and its huge!"
There are 115 nonprofits in Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline county and the City of Fredericksburg participating in The Community Give. Of those, 72 had already received a donation by 6AM.
Over the course of the day, The Community Foundation will be giving away $100,000 in incentives and prizes, including $10,000 to the nonprofit that raises the most money. But it is not just about raising the most money. The Honeywell Charitable Fund is giving away $5,000 to the 5 nonprofits that receive the most unique gifts from each of the localities that make up the Rappahannock River region. And the four nonprofits with the highest number of unique gifts of $25 or more between 6:00am & 8:00am will win $2,500. "Successful giving days are all about a great plan and stellar execution and Teri McNally and Lisa Biever at the Community Foundation nailed both," says Dan Morrison, Chief Do Gooder at IMAGINE Social Good. "They communicated the power of the event as a tool for their nonprofit partners and gave them a road map to succeed - its awesome what they have already accomplished."
There are still plenty of hours to give and we all will be watching how much the Community Foundation and local nonprofits will raise on this already historic day in the Rappahannock region.
