Thursday June 4 - Art Exhibition Paris Vintage 'Imaginary Extensions' By Didier Naert
Alliance Française Dubai and ANTIDOTE are proud to present French artist Didier Naert latest artworks with the support of Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach.
Didier Naert, movie set designer and artist, works on a very particular medium, the vintage photographic editions. Using that medium, he explores the potential of these old photographies as it combines the film maker’s eye and the imaginary world. Printed on aluminium or black paper board, Naert draws with gouache around the vintage prints giving the compositions a dreamlike aspect, in which the cinematographic framing, a universe familiar to Naert, is incontestably present.
In this first Dubai show, Didier Naert will present his latest artworks of 1961 shots of 'Halles de Paris' and Parisian streets. The cinema enthusiast will spot some images taken for 1963 Billy Wilder movie "Irma La Douce'.

The complete work offers a new vision of the popular Paris of the 50's and 60's, taking the viewers to a curious and nostalgic trip with many surprises.

Tuesday June 9 - Cine Club 'Timbuktu', French Mauritanian movie, 2014
Selected for Palme d'Or 2014 competition at Cannes, "Timbuktu' won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the François Chalais Prize. Also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, the French Mauritanian movie swept 7 awards at the French Cesar's Awards in February 2015, two of which were Best Director and Best Film.

Synopsis: Not far from Timbuktu, now ruled by religious fundamentalists, Kidane lives peacefully in the dunes with his wife Satima, his daughter Toya, and Issan, their twelve-year-old shepherd. In town, the inhabitants suffer, powerless, from the regime of terror imposed by the Jihadists determined to control their faith. Music, laughter, cigarettes, even soccer have been banned. Women have become shadows but resist with dignity. Every day, the new improvised courts issue tragic and absurd sentences. Kidane and his family seem to be spared the chaos that prevails in Timbuktu. But their destiny changes when Kidane accidentally kills Amadou, the fisherman who slaughtered "GPS," his beloved cow. He now has to face the new laws of the foreign occupants.
