Not only is snowshoeing in Glenwood Springs a great way to get out and explore the natural beauty surrounding the mineral hot springs town, it’s a sport that’s accessible to people of all ages and abilities, burns calories like crazy and is inexpensive!
Who can snowshoe? Anyone. If you can walk, you can snowshoe!
Where to go? With over 29 kilometers of marked trails, Babbish Gulch is part of the Nordic Trail system at Sunlight Mountain Resort. The loop trail offers a combination of groomed and un-groomed terrain that meanders through serene aspen groves and along the edges of dense pine forests.
What should I wear and bring? Dress in layers. Even if it’s a cold day, the vigorous exercise will warm you up in no time. Layers allow you to add or subtract warmth as needed. Sunglasses, water, snacks, sunscreen and a camera are also a good idea to bring along.
Can I rent snowshoes? Rent snowshoes for $15 per day at sporting goods stores in Glenwood Springs.
Can I bring my dog? Well-behaved canines are welcome on the Nordic trails. Be courteous to others by picking up messes and restraining your dog from chasing other trail users and wildlife.
How many calories does snowshoeing burn? Depending on your pace, snowshoeing burns a whopping 420 – 1000 calories per hour, more than walking, running, or cross country skiing at the same rate!
