Author Heather Choate Davis to make stops in Wisconsin, Ann Arbor

Concordia University Wisconsin and Ann Arbor, in partnership with St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend, will welcome author and speaker Heather Choate Davis next month for a series of talks on her books, which deliver Biblical wisdom for people from all walks of life.

Choate Davis’ scheduled speaking engagements will kick off on Thursday evening, Sept. 8 in the Todd Wehr Auditorium on the CUW campus, 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive, Mequon.

Her first talk, from 7-8:15 p.m., will be on her book “Man Turned in on Himself.” During it, Choate Davis will share Biblical insights that promise to help individuals live better in community with others and stop the inward turning spirals of their own creation.

A question and answer period will cap off the first talk. Refreshments will be served in the lobby at the conclusion of the event.

Attendees are encouraged to reserve their seat at http://cuwfalllecture.eventbrite.com. Reservations are appreciated, but not required.

After an intermission period, students are invited to return to the auditorium for a period of dialogue with the author based on her book “Happy Are Those.”

Using the first psalm as a springboard, Choate Davis will help students connect the dots between happiness and knowing their true identity. She will also introduce a prayer practice that helps listeners shut out the noise and instead be filled with the peace that passes all human understanding.

Students are welcome to attend both or either of the events. Those who attend the discussion will be eligible to receive a free copy of “Happy Are Those.”

On Sunday, Sept. 11, Choate Davis will visit St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend to discuss her book “Loaded Words” during the church’s discipleship hour at 9:25 a.m. A book signing and social hour period will begin at 9:10 a.m.

Choate Davis’ “Loaded Words” talk will show how key faith terms, such as sin, hell, and judgement, have been misused, and how the Church can “unload” them to re-introduce the great mercy, comfort and joy behind the teachings of Jesus.

The church is located at 809 S. Sixth Ave., West Bend. All are welcome to attend.

Choate Davis will return to the CUW community on Monday, Sept. 12 as the featured speaker for the Living Grace Women’s Luncheon. Tammy Ferry, wife of university president Rev. Patrick T. Ferry, Ph.D., will serve as the M.C.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. with a social time. The lunch and program will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Davians Banquet and Conference Center, 16300 W. Silver Spring Drive, Menomonee Falls.

Choate Davis’ “Baptism by Fire” will serve as the topic for the luncheon. The book is a memoir of the author’s personal conversion to faith.

The cost of the luncheon is $25. Reservations are requested by Sept. 2. Responses should be sent to Michelle Buss at michelle.buss@cuw.edu.
