Business Radio Host, Community Newspapers Columnist, and Corporate Speaker Pete De La Torre, will receive the SBA South Florida District's 2015 Small Business Media Advocate of the Year Award and 2015 SBA State of Florida Award.
De La Torre and his colleague Sally Villalba, host the popular daily business radio program the Pete de la Torre Business Hour on WZAB 880 AM, The Biz. It airs Monday-Friday from 8-9am.
"These awards acknowledge your personal achievement and dedication in advocating for and advancing small business ownership and expansion opportunities through your radio show and more specifically, the “Let’s Talk SBA” segment," said SBA Florida District Director Francisco “Pancho” A. Marrero. In a personal letter he added,"Your hard work in advocating for small business is commendable. Through your work, you inspire other entrepreneurs to start and build businesses that will benefit our community. Job creation has a lasting impact on Florida’s economy and you are there inspiring others through your work," Marrero said.

National Small Business Week will be held May 4-8, 2015. On March 16th, it was announced the city of Miami will be the “Kick Off” location for the week long celebration followed by Los Angeles, San Antonio, New York City and culminating in Washington, D.C. where national winners will be recognized and awarded. This year’s theme is, “SBA: Dream Big, Start Small.”
Each year since 1963, the President has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of Small Business Week during which SBA recognizes outstanding small business owners and advocates for their personal successes and contributions to the nation.
Among some of the guests De La Torre and Villalba have featured on the business radio show include, Maria Contreras-Sweet, SBA National Administrator, Florida Governor Rick Scott, and Manny Medina from eMerge Americas. De La Torre and Villalba are also the founders of the Entrepreneur Re-Boot Academy aka ERBA, an on air small business academy featuring experts, business lessons, and case studies for success.
