COVER UP at the Flat: Dance Party featuring all vinyl, all cover songs slated for Feb. 5

Break out your dancing shoes. The Flat is hosting a party on Thursday, Feb. 5 – featuring all vinyl and all cover songs.

DJ Sun, managing partner of the music venue and upscale, neighborhood lounge, said the idea for the event has been in the works for a while. He proposed an evening of covers to DJ Soul One, a fellow member of Soular Grooves, a program on KPFT that covers the diverse electronic and dance music culture.

DJ Soul One happened to already be at work on producing a CD entitled “COVER UP,” which consisted entirely of cover songs. “We agreed to put together a party at the Flat, which would also celebrate his album release,” DJ Sun said.

He explained that similar parties have become popular in other parts of the county. “Using all vinyl makes it more of a challenge,” DJ Sun said. “It’s too easy to find a ton of covers on the web – and it’s a lot more fun to do some digging in your own collection.”

He is up for the challenge – and already enjoys playing covers for his audiences, from Tina Turner's cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love” to "Light My Fire" by Jose Feliciano.

DJ E's E (Eric Banta) from NYCTrust, Brooklyn will be our special guest DJ - and guests are invited to hit the dance floor or enjoy the beats from the bar, over one of the new rum-inspired drinks, brews on tap or boutique wines.
