Painting exhibition - Maruška Lebrun 'Past and Modern Times'
An exhibition depicting the UAE, its people and its traditions, through the last few decades. The Arabian Heritage theme has been studied in great depth over the many years by the artist.
Maruška Lebrun, originally from the Netherlands, moved to Dubai in 1979, but it was only in the early1990's that she started painting again. Her love for art goes back to her college days. At that time her art teacher asked her to create her own cartoon page in the school's magazine, which she did for two years. Back then she worked mainly with inks and charcoal.
Working in a traditional figurative style, the UAE with its desert landscapes, the beautiful sunsets, the play of lights and darks have always been a great source of inspiration for her. She has painted Arabian wildlife, mostly camels and falcons, as well as traditional Arab architecture and landscapes from the Liwa through to Musandam, passing through the Hajar mountains. Most paintings are done in watercolours and soft pastels, which are now her preferred media to work with, but a few oil paintings will be exhibited as well.
Recently her pastel portrait of a tribesman from Tchad won the Professional Art Prize at Dubai International Art Center.
She has regularly donated art work, used in greeting cards, to Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs.
