Palmetto Center for Women Award
In addition to individual honorees, PCW presented two organizations with the Palmetto Center for Women Award. The award is the highest honor that PCW awards annually. It is awarded to a business and non-profit entity in the Midlands that has shown exceptional contribution in helping achieve one or more of the five strategic goals adopted by Palmetto Center for Women: increasing wages and employability of women, increasing women’s business ownership, expanding occupations available to women through improved education, increasing the number of women in elected or appointed office, and improving the health and well being of women.
Non-Profit PCW Award - Junior League of Columbia, Inc.
Founded in 1924, the Junior League of Columbia, Inc. (JLC) is an organization of women from the Midlands of South Carolina committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The JLC is part of the Association of Junior Leagues International which constitutes one of the largest, most effective volunteer organizations in the world. Last year the Junior League of Columbia raised $230,000 to support community programs, projects, and events organized and run by nearly 1,300 volunteers.
Corporate PCW Award - SCE&G
From helping encourage young women at the middle, high school and college levels to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers to its employee-led Women’s Leadership Group (WLG) that provides leadership development opportunities for women, SCE&G is leading the way in its efforts to helping recruit, retain and grow female leaders.
