Shake off the winter funk, and replace it with the hot music kind on Saturday, March 29th at 7:30 p.m. at Rock the Cause's signature event, Glitter Ball 5: Funk & Soul Express! Funk is derived from the French word funquer which means to give off smoke, and the atrium of the historic Grain Belt Bottling House in Northeast Minneapolis, will be transformed into a blazing inferno of music, fashion, and charitable giving. Rock the Cause’s chosen beneficiary and partner for the event is Ampersand Families, which champions practices in adoption and permanency that restore belonging, dignity and hope for youth. Additional support will go to Avenues for Homeless Youth via event partner, Jungle Red through its Treasures for Teens initiative.
Critically acclaimed headliner, Black Joe Lewis, an American blues, funk and soul artist out of Austin, Texas, is often compared to the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Black Joe Lewis will be back with his 10-piece band for a rare Twin Cities appearance after a sold out First Avenue concert in October last year.
Local musical favorites, Viva Knievel, the cover band that defies gravity, will deliver a smoking warm up along with special guests Chris Koza of Rogue Valley, Alicia Wiley of All Eyes, Carnage the Executioner, Gabriel Douglas of The 4ontheFloor, Alex Steele of Night Phoenix, Dan Rodriguez, John Tolliver of Black Diet and Josh Holmgren of More Than Lights. This show is 21+ only with a valid ID.
Guests are encourage to dress in 70s
funkadelic-inspired fashion. To get the crowd into the spirit Glitter Ball 5 partner, Jungle Red, a full service salon spa and gallery in Minneapolis, will open Glitter Ball with a fashion runway show with models
in fierce hairstyles and fashions by local boutiques Blush By Kay, Cliché,
King Brothers Clothiers and MOTTO.
Jungle Red is a longtime supporter of Rock the Cause, as well as other community causes.
To help the crowd feel groovy, a bar presented by Red Stag Supper Club, will serve a variety of refreshments with 100% of the net bar proceeds going to work in the community through this partnership with Rock the Cause. Beer sponsor Schell's Brewery will feature handcrafted beer including the very apropos Nordeast Premium.
Tickets for general admission tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door. The super fly set can purchase a smoking hot $100 VIP package which will include a private complimentary bar, appetizers, priority seating and sweltering swag by Brave New Workshop, Denny Kemp Salon, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, Nickelodeon Universe, Old Dutch, Pirk Soap and Beauty and Thymes.
