SmartWool Outfits Four-Season Athletes with All-Weather Training Collection

Leader in performance Merino apparel launches new layering system for year-round athletes

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 12, 2015) — Dropping mercury shouldn’t result in a drop in training time for today’s outdoor athletes. SmartWool, the world’s leading snow, outdoor, and active lifestyle Merino sock and apparel company, supports year-round adventurers with its new All-Weather Training collection. Featuring the SmartLoft Propulsion 60 and PhD Light apparel lines, SmartWool’s new collection of fitness apparel provides the moisture management, thermoregulation and comfort required for high-energy, cold-weather outings.

“At SmartWool, we continue to explore new ways to deliver athletes the comfort, moisture management, and anti-microbial benefits of Merino wool,” states SmartWool design director Sue Jesch. “Our inside-out design process starts with how the body moves, sweats and cools. From that foundation, we layer on fit systems, breathability zones and style features. Our new All-Weather Training collection is a result of our thermal body mapping research and close collaboration with our sponsored athletes.”

A quality layering system starts next to skin and no material manages moisture better than Merino wool. In a recent independent study, University of Otago researchers found that subjects wearing Merino registered lower skin temperatures and increased perceived dryness than those wearing polyester.

The PhD® Light line of crew and zip-neck tops for men and women features a Merino-polyester blend to optimize the garments’ wicking capabilities under high exertion. PhD® Light garments include minimal Merrow for durability and SmartWool’s construction technique results in Merino remaining next to skin to deliver the unequalled comfort for which the brand is known.

The men’s and women’s lines include the PhD® Light Long Sleeve, Zip T and Wind Zip T. Each features gender-specific body-mapped ventilation and the Wind Zip T includes a 1CFM-rated windproof front panel.

The new SmartLoft Propulsion 60 midlayer collection features 60-gram wool-based insulation in a variety of styles for men and women. All garments feature Merino lining for comfort and wind-resistant nylon face material treated with DWR finish to protect from the elements.

The SmartLoft line centers on the Propulsion 60 Jacket for men and women. Additional styles include the men’s and women’s Propulsion 60 Hoody Sport and the Women’s Double Propulsion 60 Hoody, which features insulation in the front and back of the torso—a product development that comes directly from the brand’s Fan Field Tester review program.

The SmartLoft and PhD® Light lines are easy to care for—all pieces are machine washable and dryable.

SmartWool will show the new SmartLoft and PhD® Light collections, and its full Fall 2015 line, at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, January 21-24 in Salt Lake City, and the SIA SnowShow, January 29-February 1 in Denver.
