New Campaign Aims to Curb Teen Road Deaths

Leading online driver educational learning website, is today launching a public service campaign in a bid to raise awareness of Australia’s tragic teen road toll.

 Shockingly, every 1 in 4 Australian road deaths will be a new driver. Easter weekend is a particularly dangerous time for drivers. Last year, 22 lives were reportedly lost on Australian roads over the Easter period.

 In an effort to reduce this trend, leading online education website has launched the “Be Safer, Drive Smarter” campaign. founder, Andrei Zakhareuski said that research showed most vehicle crashes were preventable with speed, fatigue, mobile phone use and not wearing seatbelts among the biggest killers on Australian roads.

 “While the statistics are shocking, there are things parents can do to empower teenagers to drive safely. Steps like talking openly with teens about expectations for when their child is behind the wheel, such as ‘don’t drink and drive’, ‘wear a seat belt’, ‘focus on the road’ and ‘never text while driving’ can have a huge impact,” he said.

 As part of the “Be Safer, Drive Smarter” campaign, has created a free parent-teen driver contract  available to download from the website.

 “A parent-driver contract is one way to ease concern for parents of new drivers and establish a basis of trust. It provides for an open line of communication between parents and teenagers about the importance of safety and the expectations that come with the new and profound responsibility of driving,” Andrei Zakhareuski said.

 Other factors of the “Be Safer, Drive Smarter” campaign include a social media conversation highlighting the dangers of distracted driving and suggesting tips on ways teens can be safer on the road.
