First Time Online Pop Culture Convention CON-CON Kicked Off to Record Numbers

LOS ANGELES (December 8, 2014) -- Over 6200 badge holders showed up for new convention Con-Con, an online pop culture convention and brainchild of voice-over superstars Yuri Lowenthal (Prince of Persia, Ben 10, Sunset Overdrive) and Tara Platt (Legion of Superheroes, Naruto, Persona). Attendees tuned in from numerous countries and time zones to ask questions, interact and enjoy the event.

The free online con offered Dealers Room, Artists' Alley, Swag Giveaways, a free exclusive downloadable Con-Con Poster, Con-Con Nerd-Bunny T-shirts, as well as Live Panels and Musical Guest throughout the 6 hour event. The show was live-streamed on Twitch via Jace Hall's Twin Galaxies Live and was competing for eyes with popular League of Legends and World of Warcraft tournaments so the turnout ended up even better than expected. A full video capture of the event for people who missed the initial broadcast should be available soon on Twin Galaxies Live and via

Panels included anime (Naruto), science (with Nasa's mohawk scientist himself, Bobak), video games, live music, comics, live gaming and cosplay with geeky celebrity guests. And the event helped announce the nationwide release of award-winning mockumentary Con Artists. Rock and Roll had THIS IS SPINAL TAP, dog shows had BEST IN SHOW, and now the geektastic community of ComicCon has the new mockumentary CON ARTISTS! Enter the ridiculous and bizarre world of comic cons, voice acting, and fandom, where anything can happen (and usually does). Starring Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt with cameos from a host of geek celebs, CON ARTISTS is an affectionately satirical look behind the curtain of pop culture conventions and the craziness that ‘fame in a bubble’ can bring.

Platt and Lowenthal were eager to bring that same infectious enthusiasm to Con-Con and it seems to have worked. Attendees of Con-Con had this to say on social media, " @DylanoftheDZ: #ConCon was one of the best cons this year thank you" and "@Shadownade Enjoying #ConCon with @YuriLowenthal, @taraplatt and everyone else! This is the best thing to ever happen to the internet." @ISF_Puppyluv3r I don't think I'll ever get over how much fun I had at #ConCon yesterday! :D Had a total blast!!! #Contastic! :))" Even the guests on panels were asking when the next Con-Con would be.

Who knows, they just might have to make it an annual thing. In the meantime, check out “Con Artists,” an official selection of Mockfest, and laugh along with the Con.

“CON ARTISTS” releases VOD nationwide on Wednesday, December 10th, 2014
