Christine Ann and Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs Receive $60,000 Challenge Grant from the J.J. Keller Foundation

APPLETON, WI – In 2014 Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc. and Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs each celebrate 30 years of service in their respective communities.  In honor of this milestone, the J.J. Keller Foundation will match donations to Harbor House and Christine Ann up to a total of $60,000. “The Kellers are proud to support the work of Harbor House and Christine Ann through this anniversary-related challenge grant.  It’s a great way to recognize the wonderful work of two top-notch local nonprofits that are critical to the continuum of care in the Fox Valley,” said Mary Harp-Jirschele, Executive Director at the J.J. Keller Foundation.

In response to this generous challenge grant, the agencies have come together to create The Pearl Fund campaign. The campaign runs now through August 1, 2014 and individual gifts of up to $1,000 will be doubled until the $60,000 matching goal is reached.  To date, the Pearl Fund campaign has already raised over $16,000 (27% of goal) thanks to initial gifts from 100% of each agency’s Board Members.

“We are so grateful to the J.J. Keller Foundation for this generous matching grant opportunity”, said Beth Schnorr, Executive Director at Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs. “We have experienced significant progress within the domestic violence movement over the past 30 years and we are so proud to be an impetus for that social change within our communities.  Nevertheless, our work is far from finished and these funds will help launch our efforts into the next 30 years as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our services and work towards our vision to one day put an end to domestic violence.”

According to Julie Fevola, Executive Director at Christine Ann, the naming of The Pearl Fund has more meaning than just its significance as a symbol for 30th Anniversaries. “As we reflected on the image of the pearl, it really resonated with the work our agencies do and honored the women who so courageously seek out our services. A pearl is formed by an oyster as a way of protecting itself from a threat. It’s the same in domestic violence situations and the beautiful pearls are the women and their children who heroically leave a horrible cycle of abuse.”
