Business hotels, usually associated with large cities, are making a breakthrough at a fast pace in the medium-sized cities, residential areas in the outskirts and nature areas where you can celebrate business meetings, conferences and conventions, as well as team building activities. The improvements in services and the spaces for business travellers in this type of hotels for events and companies are also standing out, with a clear progress in the specialisation and adaptation of the new technologies.
Eminently tourist destinations such as Majorca or Tenerife join this tendency, providing and remodelling some of the hotels with new facilities conceived of to allow thebusiness travellers and conferences tourists (MICE) to enjoy these spaces. There are some outstanding hotels in the centre of Palma, city that is building its Conferences Palace and still uses its hotels as the epicentres of reception of these types of events.
Other chains start now to bet on this MICE sector with the management and renovations of business hotels in areas such as Getafe or Guadalajara, one step away from the capital, but with much more affordable prices than the hotels in the centre of Madrid.
To this effect, they have recovered short-stay hotels and have turned them into rest and work centres for business travellers, providing them with new services: free car park, meeting and training rooms, restaurants with business menus, free wifi in the rooms… This is precisely the case of the Elegance chain, which now is managing theElegance Azuqueca and Elegance Getafe hotels.
Along with them, groups such as Barceló are still furthering this line leaded by them since some years ago, giving rise to establishments that have received considerable events in Barcelona or Madrid. In its list of business hotels we can also find good examples in cities such as Seville, where its Barceló Renacimiento becomes, year after year, one of the favourite hotels for business traveller staying in the Spanish city.

Special spaces for business travellers, healthy breakfasts and lunches, afterwork cocktails sessions for informal meetings, gym, wellness areas… The new business spaces of these hotels have gained the confidence of many visitors and grow more and more in quality and offer. Nevertheless, they are still a plus that you pay dearly: a good business hotel in Madrid is usually associated with a high price, even though you get discounts and advantages of earlybooking.
Trying to balance services, spaces and rates could be one of the ways of competing with the MICE hotels and, actually, some hotel chains have made progresses in this sense. Petit Palace’s business hotels in Madrid, for example, are standing out precisely for this: they offer very competitive prices to business travellers, professional associations and companies, as well as comfortable spaces adapted to their needs. It is true that, in a given moment, they could not cover big events since they lack wide conferences rooms.
Even so, having more options, more offer and more and best spaces for business tourism are good news for this industry in Spain, trying to overcome the last years economic crisis that have also affected this sector.
