The Kia Optima: A Great Value, New or Used

The latest generation of Kia Optima is an incredible value, partly due to its redesigned and more comfortable interior, partly because of its sleek European styling, and mostly because it looks and feels like a much more expensive vehicle. If you're looking for a superior new or used Kia in El Paso, Texas at an affordable price, the Optima is a stellar pick.

This third-generation midsize family sedan is packed with standard features and boasts several impressively powerful engine packages. In addition to the Optima Hybrid, there is the LX, EX, SX and SX Limited. The base LX model features a 2.4 liter, 200 horsepower engine with 186 pound-feet of torque and operates via a 6-speed manual transmission. The LX comes standard with alloy wheels, air conditioning (definitely a must for a Texas summer!), a steering wheel that both tilts and telescopes, and a dynamic stereo system with CD player, satellite radio, and connections for both the iPod and a USB.

The EX offers a 6-speed automatic transmission, but the engine package is identical to the LX. Both the EX and the Optima Hybrid come with a remote keyless entry system, including keyless ignition start. These models also feature an automatic climate control system and classic leather seats.

The SX comes in both standard and turbocharged versions, featuring a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine, which boasts a zippy 274 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The SX is equipped much like the EX, but offers 18-inch alloy wheels, along with a sport-tuned suspension system, and an integrated display screen.

The SX Limited also comes in standard or turbocharged, and has an identical engine to the SX. The SX Limited is truly feature-packed, offering a panoramic sunroof, a rearview camera for easy backing and parking, a rear-park assist sensor, a blind spot mirror, and the popular UVO voice command system. The Limited model also offers a heated steering wheel, as well as heated and ventilated seats for the driver and front passenger, heated rear seats, an upgraded sound system, and a navigation system.

The Kia Optima Hybrid achieves a combined city/highway fuel mileage of 36 mpg, quite generous for a midsize family sedan. This makes the Optima a great Kia for El Paso drivers who regularly commute or like to hit the lonesome west Texas highways. The base engine package is suitable for most drivers, and only the most aggressive will want to pay extra for the turbocharged engine package. It's more than peppy enough to merge onto the I-10 in rush hour traffic.

With quality in mind, the Kia Optima is a vehicle any Texan can feel confident buying used from a reliable dealership. Taking the time to research local dealerships and test driving the model that meets your requirements can save you money while affording you a reliable vehicle that will last.
