Scientific testing shows improved performance for ski racers wearing Opedix tights
VAIL, Colo. (Feb. 29, 2016) —After a recent study showed a significant increase in the performance of University of Denver (DU) skiers wearing Opedix tights, the team has established an official partnership with the brand. The nationally-ranked team will be wearing Opedix DUAL-Tec 2.0 ¾ length tights for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.
Athletes and coaches at DU were introduced to the innovative Opedix technology by participating in research conducted at the Human Dynamics Laboratory at DU. Results from the research indicated Opedix tights reduced peak torque on a skiers’ knees by up to 16 percent and allowed athletes to complete the turn phase faster with reduced effort on their joints.
“I have been excited about working with Opedix for more than a year and now adding them as a sponsor is tremendous for our program,” said Andy Leroy, Head Alpine Ski Coach at DU. “We spent a lot of time testing the tights in rigorous training and saw firsthand how they worked for our athletes.”
Founded four years ago, the Human Dynamics lab location in the DU athletics department helps facilitate collaboration between researchers and coaches to improve athlete performance and injury prevention. Working with Opedix, the lab developed an unprecedented data measurement tracking device, called the Mobile Kinetics Diagnostics System, to facilitate data collection outside the traditional lab setting and conduct the research on the DUAL-Tec 2.0 ¾ length tights.
“After seeing the positive results from the research it was a natural fit to continue working with the DU Ski Team,” said Opedix Vice President of Business Development Brian Cousins. “The skiers on the team are great ambassadors for our brand and we’re excited to cheer them on as they head into the championships.”
With a storied history of excellence, the DU Ski Team boasts 22 NCAA Championships, the most by any ski team in NCAA history. Nine men and thirteen women make up the 2015/16 roster.
Founded in collaboration with leading doctors and scientists at the Steadman Phillipon Research Institute in 2004, Opedix makes Kinetic Health Gear to enhance performance, recovery and rehabilitation by promoting dynamic alignment and optimal joint function.
