Kalon Surf debuts in March its new luxury surf hotel in Dominical, Costa Rica

In March 2014, 'Kalon Surf - The Luxury Surf Resort' opens its beautiful new hotel, which is located in the upscale area of ‘Altos de Miramar’, just 10 minutes from Playa Dominical, 20 minutes from Manuel Antonio and 2 hours from the capital, ‘Kalon Surf’. Being located 1200 ft above the sea, it makes for breathtaking views and sunsets over the Pacific coast from Dominical to Manuel Antonio.

The luxury hotel is build on a beautiful 6.5 acres property, which includes untouched primary rainforest, and is home to many species of this area, such as toucans, white-faced monkeys, sloths and howler monkeys. It is in close proximity to scenic beaches with excellent conditions for surfers of all levels and beautiful jungle surroundings such as Playa Hermosa, Playa Dominical and Playa Linda.

Kalon Surf is a boutique style luxury surf hotel, with a strong focus on quality and service and offers an atmosphere of both comfort and luxury, with every detail taken care of in and around the rooms, common areas and property. The hotel has a limit of maximum 10 guests per week to, according to its owners, ensure quality level, atmosphere and attention to its guests.

More than a surf vacation

The concept of Kalon Surf (unique in this area) that caters to a variety of international guests with an interest to surf (surfers of all levels novice, beginners, intermediate and advanced are welcome), to relax and a luxurious environment, is build with and on the passion of its owners: Kjeld Schigt and Silene Vega, who left behind their international corporate careers in 2011 to start their own business: Kalon Surf.

Empowered by the success of Kalon since its start in 2011, the couple took the next step by designing this new property based on feedback of their guests and the couples' own experiences of the last 3 years running Kalon Surf. The hotel is build in such a way that one can enjoy their privacy on their private balconies overlooking the stunning Pacific Ocean and its magical sunsets, and at the same time enjoy them in the common areas with their friends and other guests.

"We wanted a Bali-style mansion with a Costa Rican interpretation, with warm elements like wood and rustic-like materials, inclusion of the nature and surroundings through the use of a plentitude of large windows and at the same time give it a modern ‘trendy’ touch by using modern design trends" explains Silene Vega.

The total investment is estimated at $ 1.4 million and the new building will open in March 2014.

Silene continuous: "The Kalon Surf experience starts from the first contact we have with the client (email, phone or chat); we usually reply or get back to an enquiry within 2 hours, and right away we try to give as much (personalized) information as we can and answer any questions they may have as well as manage expectations. Upon confirmation of reservation, our guest get access to their private mobile concierge and can see already their itinerary (surf times, video analysis, massage) for their week, but they also can give us their food preferences, arrival and departure times, and request additional spa treatments - this way we can prepare optimally for their stay and for the guests it makes planning of their vacation a breeze."

The all inclusive package is a seven night stay at the new mansion, with five surf sessions lasting 3 to 4 hours - Kalon’s surf instructors are all locals, who know the area inside out but are also American Red Cross trained lifeguards. A ratio of maximum 3:1 ( three clients - one instructor), and daily video analysis sessions (45-60min) with videos and photos taken that day on the beach ensure that the surf level of each guest, whichever level, improves impressively on daily basis.

After three days of surf, the body needs and gets a well deserved break, therefore a complimentary relaxing massage is scheduled on the day off. Throughout the week, several Pilates classes are taught to help the guests recover and get the most out of the week. The infinity pool and private jungle trail on the property of Kalon complement the several ways for its guests to relax and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica..

Kalon’s private chef prepares in the open kitchen all the delicious gourmet style dishes served during the week which the guests enjoy with the company of the sun setting in over the Pacific Ocean. All dishes are homemade with fresh organic products produced in Kalon’s own vegetable and fruit garden.

Kalon makes sure that even the smallest details are not forgotten, and arranges the transport from the airport and to the airport in comfortable SUV’s arriving and departing on time for each guest. And at the end of the week, visitors receive an email with the best shots of their surf sessions and a video with the all the best waves of the group so they have the evidence and memories to show for.

The new building , which opens in late March is the work of Costa Rican architects Carolina Adolfo Mejia and Vargas.
