BC3 students named to 2015 All-Pennsylvania Academic Team

(Butler, PA) Butler County Community College students Andrea Dean and Jenna Massaro were named to the 2015 All-Pennsylvania Academic Team on Monday, April 13 by the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two-year colleges.

Dean and Massaro, along with 45 other community college students from across the commonwealth, were honored at the 21st Annual All-Pennsylvania Awards Banquet in Harrisburg. The students, representing each community college in the state, were honored for achieving academic excellence and demonstrating a commitment to their colleges and communities.

Pennsylvania’s community colleges partner with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities to provide scholarships to All-Pennsylvania Team members at PASSHE institutions.

PASSHE Chancellor Frank T. Brogan describes the All-PA Team as “an exceptional program,” adding, “Since 2001, Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education has assisted nearly 300 students through this program. We are proud to be a participant, and to be able to provide tuition assistance to team members who will go on to attend one of our 14 universities.”

Andrea Dean plans to transfer to Edinboro University to study Speech and Hearing Sciences. Her ultimate goal is to earn a master’s degree in the field as well. She is active in the Rho Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at BC3 and has led the development of BC3’s 50th anniversary time capsule. Outside of college, she volunteers as a youth group leader at her church.

Jenna Massaro has not yet selected a transfer institution, but plans to pursue a doctorate in English and creative writing. Her ultimate goal is to become an English professor and novelist. She has been on the Dean’s or the President’s List every semester and serves as the Vice President of the Rho Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at BC3. She is passionate about the arts and plays four different instruments.
