Kenny Constructions’ has recently been awarded the contract to complete
the concrete structures for the precast facility at the Bella Vista Station,
which is part of the $8.3 billion North West Rail Link in Sydney’s North
NSW Construction Manager for Kenny Constructions, Conor Martin is proud to be involved in Australia’s largest transport project, stating that “We are pleased to deliver complex projects safely and on time. The North West Rail Link, managed by Transport for NSW will form part of Sydney’s rapid transit network and will be open by the end of 2019.
The actual construction of the tunnels will be undertaken by a joint venture between construction giants Thiess (fifty percent of the joint venture), John Holland and Dragados (both twenty five percent of the joint venture). Selected by the New South Wales Government, the joint venture will construct the tunnels and excavate new underground stations for Sydney’s visionary North West Rail Link.
Under the $1.15 billion Tunnel and Station Civil Works contract, the Thiess John Holland Dragados joint venturewill construct the longest rail tunnels ever built in Australia. They will be twin fifteen kilometre tunnels, seven metres in diameter, and will require four custommade Tunnel Boring Machines to complete the construction. The first of the Tunnel Boring Machines will be in the ground by the end of 2104.
Stations will be located at: Cherrybrook, Castle Hill, Showground, Norwest, Bella Vista, Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Cudgegong Road. Also planned are bus interchanges and four thousand commuter car parking spaces. Driverless trains will be operated on the line when it opens.
Kenny Constructions’ will complete the precast facility in April 2014 so that the casting of 30,000 precast segments maycommence in May 2014. The concrete forming isa critical component on the timeline to the overall project delivery. The works include; detailed earthworks, fixing reinforcement, formwork and concrete placement for 88 metres of 6 metre high reinforced concrete walls, more than 10,000m2 of reinforced concrete slabs and 3,000 linear metres of ground beam.
