Making Vintage Modern: New Online-Only Webstore Launches with Best of Vintage Italian Design

Los Angeles, CA - June 21, 2016 - The Mark ( is a new curated webstore of the best vintage Italian furniture, lighting, and accessories from the highly innovative years of the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s. These decades span a time when traditional artisanal production in Italy was met by major advances in manufacturing research and development. The Mark assembles premier examples of designs from this period by names such as Angelo Mangiarotti, Afra & Tobia Scarpa, Joe Colombo, and Sergio Asti, and innovative manufacturers Cassina, B&B Italia, Flos and Poltrona Frau.  The products display a sense of futuristic optimism grounded by timeless forms of exceptional quality and craftsmanship. Most pieces are rare or limited in production with a specific focus on items made from base materials such as wood, glass, metal and stone.

The Mark breaks with traditional vintage stores’ reliance on physical storefronts and operates as an online-only model that embraces the opportunities of the digital format. The site displays items without pretense with an easy-to-use navigation design and an emphasis on large, clear images with a photographic style that provides as much visual information as possible to buyers—emphasizing details that might otherwise be missed in person. A number of exclusive design features, such as visual dimension and material overlays [image link], help to provide customers with a better understanding of scale and material breakdown. The brand and site design pulls inspiration from digital culture and Los Angeles where The Mark is based.

Founded by Mattia Nuzzo, a specialist in late modern Italian design, the goal of The Mark is to expose consumers and designers generally opposed to vintage pieces to what makes them unique—and at comparable prices to new items that typically lose half their value after purchase. The store name, The Mark, alludes to both the intangible mark of quality that the pieces represent, and the literal manufacturers’ brand marks that are highlighted on every piece when present. The Mark launched at the start of Summer 2016.
