Fifth Annual Kansas City Restaurant Week Breaks Record, Raises More Than $240,000 for Three Kansas City Charities

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 13, 2014) – After raising $454,000 cumulatively during its first four years for local charities, Kansas City Restaurant Week presented by US Foods raised a record of more than $240,000 for three charities during the fifth annual dining event, which was held January 17-26. 2014 Kansas City Restaurant Week boasted the largest number of participating restaurants in the history of the event with 133 restaurants throughout the metropolitan showcasing their culinary talents during the 10 days, offering multiple-course lunch and dinner menus for $15 and $33, respectively.

Participating restaurants donated 10 percent of Restaurant Week menu sales in support of three charities:  Harvesters – The Community Food Network, the Kansas City Regional Destination Development Foundation (KCRDDF) and The Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association (GKCRA) Educational Foundation. The KCRDDF is administered by the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association and primarily focuses on the identification, development and advocacy of tourism products in Kansas City regional communities. The (GKCRA) Educational Foundation provides training to its members in the hospitality industry by developing new educational programs and by offering scholarships to deserving members of the community.

A total of $56,000 was raised in 2010, the inaugural year of Kansas City Restaurant Week, with increases each year—$80,000 in 2011; $143,000 in 2012 and $175,000 in 2013. The 2014 fundraising record of $240,000 puts the combined total of donations raised during the first five years of Kansas City Restaurant Week at nearly $700,000, a result of both increased restaurant participation and community interest to explore and enjoy the Kansas City dining scene at a notable value.

Other notable highlights for 2014, include:

  • More than $2.4 million in restaurant revenue, a 37-percent increase over 2013
  • 17,783 all-time app downloads and 27,988 app sessions on the free mobile app
  • More than 8.14 million impressions accrued through social channels
  • 387,663 page views of participating restaurant menus.
