The Enigmas Return to Vancouver’s Newest Live Concert Stage at IMPERIAL

VANCOUVER (October 1, 2014) – #GarageRock legends The Enigmas return to Vancouver with a show at IMPERIAL on November 15th .

After playing a sold-out concert in January to celebrate the release of their live concert DVD, the alternative music pioneers including sax-wielding Paul McKenzie of the Real McKenzies and other original members, ex-Subhumans drummer Randy Bowman and guitarist Mike Davies, are joined once again by Stephen Hamm of The Evaporators and Slow fame.

“We are excited to have The Enigmas perform at Vancouver’s coolest live music venue & event space – they are going to make history again! This former Asian cinema house gives these guys the stage, the big sound, the acoustics and the dance floor their energetic music deserves!” said David Hawkes, Live Entertainment Director at IMPERIAL.

Openers The Shit Talkers and The Tranzmitors will warm up the stage for The Enigmas at the renovated 6,000-square foot stylish venue located in the city’s urban core. Guests can party in the main room, or lounge at the smaller full-service bar encircled by miniature replicas of Qin Dynasty terracotta warriors.

“We’re proud to host a wide cross-section of dynamic music and creativity, and those that support the arts in our city,” said Hawkes.

About The Enigmas
The early 80s underground music scene was inundated with heavy thrash punk or grim, depressing post-punk. The Enigmas reacted to that by playing a mix of fun sixties garage rock, psychedelia and fast tempoed pop. After emerging from the notorious Smilin’ Buddha they became regulars at the legendary Railway Club as well as headlining large warehouse punk rock shows.

The foursome swept Canada’s underground music scene with legendary performances until lead singer and saxophonist Paul McKenzie formed The Real McKenzies in 1992. The other members went on the perform in The Scramblers, Cane Toads, The Fiends, JP5 as well as many others.

The band released two 12” EPs, the second ‘Strangely Wild’ on the Zulu Records label. A video of their song ‘Windshield Wiper’ from that record received regular airplay on Muchmusic. They also appeared on a number of compilation records.

After playing IMPERIAL the band is planning new recordings and a compilation of their previous material.
