PREMIERING AT 30 DIES FESTIVAL de CINEMA FANTASTIC and SYDNEY SCI-FI FILM FESTIVAL
SYDNEY, Australia (October 21, 2014) – Australian-American actress MICHELA CARATTINI delivers an explosive performance starring in the new apocalyptic sci-fi indie feature film, 54 DAYS. The Australian indie is scheduled to make its world premiere at the 30 Dies Festival de Cinema Fantastic in Andorra on November 6th and then screen at the Sydney Sci-Fi Film Festival on November 16th.
Written and directed by Tim Lea, 54 DAYS chronicles the lives of five people trapped in a 1960s nuclear shelter after a nuclear and biological attack hits Australia and beyond. As food and water run out, the five are forced to make an impossible decision - either one dies or they all die. Carattini stars as ‘Michelle’, a London-born legal eagle who finds herself trapped not only in the shelter, but also by a provocative secret with nowhere to hide.
Carattini was excited at the opportunity to dive into this challenging role, explaining that the survival thriller required her to differentiate dramatic moment after dramatic moment, often while stifling the character’s emotion in order to keep her secret. She says she particularly drew inspiration from Monica Bellucci in the film MALENA, whom she says does this ‘masterfully’.
The talented blonde beauty has been building a solid resume and scores of fans for her recent film work. Her roles include starring as the charismatic and beautiful American psychiatrist ‘Sam’ in THE 33RD WEDDING; romantic French backpacker ‘Lauren’ in the French Art-Cinema short LE MATINAL, the savvy business woman ‘Lana’ trying to break into the boy's club in the avant-garde short, SWEET DISPOSITION; the epitome of altruistic strength as the ‘Mother’ in the live-animation short, PAPA’S SONATA; and sassy, trashy ‘Tash’ in the cringe-worthy comedy web series, IT’S A DOLE LIFE.
The daughter of a Panamanian-American military intelligence officer and an Australian ballerina, Carattini grew up in Germany and made her professional acting debut at age fourteen as a soloist in the Houston Grand Opera's internationally televised STREET SCENE. She has lived all over the world, including Texas, Arizona, California, New York, Korea, Germany, the Czech Republic and now Sydney, Australia. She studied at New York’s famed conservatory, The American Musical Dramatic Academy, and went on to graduate magna cum laude from Ivy League college Columbia University. She continued her studies in Australia, earning a Masters of Criminology from Sydney University and now explores the human psyche through the art of acting.
Michela Carattini is represented by Marion Baird at The Green Room (Sydney, Australia).
