Actress REN HANAMI Joins New Crackle Series “SEQUESTERED” Premiering on August 5, 2014

LOS ANGELES (July 28, 2014) – Actress REN HANAMI is set to appear in the brand new original drama series SEQUESTERED, debuting August 5, 2014 on Crackle, the online network of Sony Pictures Television.

Directed by Shawn Ku (“Beautiful Boy”) and Kevin Tancharoen (“Fame,” “Motral Kombat: Legacy”) and created by Aaron Tracy, SEQUESTERED follows a jury sequestered in a hotel while deliberating a high-profile kidnapping-murder case. The show stars Jesse Bradford (“Bring It On”) as Danny Firmin, a young attorney who uncovers a conspiracy in his case defending the alleged murderer of Gov. Mark Bennett’s (Patrick Warburton) 8-year-old son. Hanami appears in a recurring role as TV news host Reyna Salinas, who steps-in to interview Bennett and his wife (Dina Meyer) about their young son’s murder.

Hanami was beyond excited at the opportunity, explaining “I met Kevin Tancharoen briefly a few years ago at a DGA Diversity panel and was very impressed with him. I remember leaving the event thinking ‘I would really love to work with him someday’. So, I was over the moon excited when I auditioned for him and Shawn Ku…and then booked the role.”

Fresh off its premiere in Los Angeles, Hanami heads to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August starring in Ovation Award-winning playwright and composer Erin Kamler’s new musical “LAND OF SMILES.” Hanami plays Achara Montri, a Thai NGO Rescue Worker and attorney, in this complicated story about the trafficking of women in Thailand, as seen through the eyes of sex workers, grassroots activists, NGO employees and other members of the anti-trafficking movement.

Hanami has been gaining fans and building a solid reputation in the industry for her work. Her previous television credits include appearances on “Parenthood,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Southland,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Private Practice,” “ER,” and Lifetime’s original movie “Hunt for the Labyrinth Killer” among others. Currently in its third and final season, Hanami has lent her voice to create multiple characters on the wildly popular online audio drama, “The Katniss Chronicles,” based on the bestselling book, “The Hunger Games.” Earlier this year, Hanami appeared in the world premiere of the original musical, “Cinnamon Girl,” at the Greenway Court Theatre from the award-winning team: playwright Velina Hasu Houston, composer Nathan Wang and director Jon Lawrence Rivera.

Behind the camera, Hanami has been writing and developing the original trilogy of live-action feature films, “Ninja Mom.” This family friendly project will star Hanami as an action hero alongside acclaimed actor, Noah Wyle (best known for starring in the award-winning TV show “E.R.”).

A Huntington Beach, CA native, Hanami was predominantly influenced by her Hawaiian/Japanese Mother. Proud of her heritage, she currently sits as the National Chairman of the SAG-AFTRA Asian Pacific American Media Committee, which offers moral support and a forum where diverse voices can be heard.

Ren Hanami is represented by The David Moss Company.
