CARBONDALE, Colo. (April 15, 2015) — Backbone Media, the country’s premier active lifestyle public relations and media agency, has hired Elizabeth Carey as an account manager and promoted Brian Holcombe to associate director of public relations.
Carey was most recently the associate digital editor for SKI and Skiing magazines; previous to that, she was the social media and content manager for Run.com. Carey has a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree from Columbia University, where she also ran Division I track and cross country. Carey will serve as the account manager for HOKA ONE ONE and also Backbone’s newly acquired account, Strava.
“Elizabeth is a core runner and a great communicator, we're excited to have her editorial and athletic experience on our team," says PR Director Ian Anderson. Carey will be based in Backbone’s Denver office.
Holcombe joined Backbone only 10 months ago as an account manager. Previously he served as the editor of velonews.com. In the newly created role of associate PR director he will help support Backbone Media's portfolio of 40-plus active lifestyle clients.
“Brian has deeply ingrained himself in Backbone in a very short amount of time,” says Anderson. “Not only has he secured excellent coverage for his clients, but Brian has also contributed to strategy development across the agency, served as a mentor to junior account staff, and been deeply involved in our growing content marketing services. I’m sure he will be an even more valuable resource to our team in his new role.”
Also joining Backbone's Denver office is Corbin Clement, who will serve as an account coordinator. Clement, a former professional snowboarder, recently graduated from the University of Denver's Daniels School of Business, where he earned a master’s degree in marketing.
Lastly, Jen Burn was recently hired as an account coordinator at Backbone. Burn joins Backbone from Trail Runner magazine, where she worked as the subscription manager and an editorial intern.
