[COLUMBIA, SC – Feb. 13, 2015] – The YMCA of Columbia announces that its new Downtown Columbia YMCA location will be at the corner of Bull Street and Hampton Street and will open in spring of 2016.
“Our new Downtown YMCA will enable us to better support the people and neighborhoods that need it most by addressing many of our community’s most critical issues with a state-of-the-art facility to deliver programs like LIVESTRONG at the YMCA and the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program,” said Bryan Madden, Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Columbia. “Now that the location selection process is complete, we look forward to the next phases of design and construction.”
The Downtown YMCA was one of the first 50 Ys in the United States and has been a support system for thousands of Columbia residents.
Into the 21st century, the YMCA of Columbia continues to adapt to make a major impact on the many challenges facing our community, our state and the nation. From the tens of thousands of children who have been impacted by quality childcare, camps and sports programs, to the countless adults whose lives have been strengthened through healthier lifestyles, the Downtown YMCA’s contribution to the Columbia community continues.
