Temporary Sim Cards Facility for Amarnath Yatris in Kashmir

Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board has introduced temporary pre-paid SIM Cards for Amarnath Yatris. which shall be operational for 7 days. The decision was taken in a meeting with C.E.O and other concerned officer, which was chaired by Mr. N.N. Vohra, Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.

“All the pilgrims will get temporary pre-paid SIM cards this year, which shall be operative for a period of seven days as compared to four days during Yatra 2013. This pre-paid SIM card facility is extremely valuable for those Yatris who do not possess a BSNL mobile facility,” an official statement said.

The Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Navin K. Chaudhary, also revealed that the BSNL would issue these pre-paid SIM cards only to the registered users at special counters. These counters will be set up at the Baltal and Nuwan base camps.  In order to obtain the Pre-paid SIM cards, you would be required to provide identity proof, proof of permanent address and other valid registration papers at the counters.

He further stated that Mr. N.N. Vohra, the Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, will be handling the matters of enhancement of telecom facilities in the Yatra area along with the central authorities. The department of telecommunication has also advised other service providers such as Airtel, Vodafone and Idea etc to pool their resources and explore the practicality of erecting telecom towers in the Yatra area.
