Fifth Annual Kansas City Restaurant Week Will Bring Total Donations For The First Five Years To More Than A Half-Million Dollars

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After raising $454,000 during its first four years for local charities, Kansas City Restaurant Week presented by US Foods looks to break the half-million dollar mark with the fifth annual dining event, Jan. 17-26. At this point, 133 restaurants from across the metro area are currently enrolled for Kansas City Restaurant Week. That number represents the most restaurants featured for Kansas City Restaurant Week in its five-year history. Restaurants will offer multiple-course lunch and dinner menus for $15 and $33, respectively. While the majority of restaurants will offer both lunch and dinner, some will offer only lunch or dinner. To view the various Restaurant Week menus, visit www.kcrestaurantweek.com or download the Kansas City Restaurant Week mobile app for the iPhone and Android operating systems. Both the website and app will continually update as restaurants submit menus.

Ten percent of each Restaurant Week menu will be donated to the beneficiaries of 2014 Kansas City Restaurant Week. The three charities are Harvesters – the Community Food Network, providing meals to the hungry in Kansas City, and will also benefit the Kansas City Regional Destination Development Foundation and The Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association (GKCRA) Educational Foundation, both nonprofit organizations helping to advance culinary education and the restaurant and tourism industries in Kansas City. The Kansas City Regional Destination Development Foundation is administered by the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association and primarily focuses on the identification, development and advocacy of tourism products in Kansas City regional communities. The (GKCRA) Educational Foundation provides training to its members in the hospitality industry by developing new educational programs and by offering scholarships to deserving members of the community.

A total of $56,000 was raised in 2010, the inaugural year of Kansas City Restaurant Week. The donations have seen an increase each year – $80,000 in 2011, $143,000 in 2012, and $175,000 in 2013.

The website and app will also allow diners to make reservations at select restaurants via Open Table. Reservations may also be made by calling the restaurants direct.

About Kansas City Restaurant Week
Presented by US Foods, Kansas City Restaurant Week was created by the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association and the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association in an effort to support the local restaurant community spanning both sides of the Missouri and Kansas border. 2010 marked the inaugural year for the 10-day event, designed to spotlight Kansas City as one of the country's premier dining destinations and in partnership with Harvesters – The Community Food Network, to fight hunger in the Kansas City area. The event also benefits The Kansas City Regional Destination Development Foundation and The Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association Education Foundation, both nonprofit organizations helping to advance culinary education and the restaurant and tourism industries in Kansas City. Kansas City Restaurant Week featured 126 area restaurants in 2013 and raised more than $170,000 for Harvesters – The Community Food Network, The Kansas City Regional Destination Development Foundation, and The Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.
