Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader are fully automatic LCR-meters that replace the need for conventional bench type testers which may be cumbersome to use while evaluating the tiny components used in Surface Mount Technology (SMT). SMT is becoming the leading manufacturing method of electronics, in which the small components are mounted directly onto a PCB. These small components may be difficult to identify and evaluate, making identifying and testing cumbersome. Smart Tweezers offers the perfect solution. Instead of wire leads, Smart Tweezers use gold-plated tweezers that are combined with an LCR-meter that requires no set-up between evaluations. When in contact, Smart Tweezers is able to automatically determine the type of component and the best test parameters. It then measures for Inductance (L), Capacitance (C) or Resistance (R) as well as secondary values such as the Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) value.
The two newest models in the Smart Tweezers LCR-meter line are the ST-5S and the LCR-Reader. Both models offer fully automatic LCR measurements with instantaneous results and are powered by Li-Ion battery, rechargeable via micro-USB. The ST-5S is the newest model replacing the ST-5; offering the same features and functions with an updated look with a 1 oz. weight and nearly half the size of the previous model. This model is aimed at the professional users, with more features and a higher basic accuracy of 0.2%. Smart Tweezers come with a calibration certificate and need to be calibrated annually in order to stay ISO compliant.
The LCR-Reader was created as the “budget” model of Smart Tweezers, for hobbyists and non-professionals who want a device like Smart Tweezers but without the high price, LCR-Reader retails for under $200. This device offers less features, including component sorting, variable tolerance, and diode and continuity testing. By removing these features, the price point was achievable. For Asian customers, Siborg has recently added two new distributors; Medin Co. Ltd. in Vietnam and Huizhou Kerui Trade Co. Ltd. in China. With these distributors, Asian customers no longer have to wait for shipping or customs from Canada, as well as having a closer place to send their devices if they need maintenance or repair.
