Friday Staffing Celebrates 35 Years Helping Locals Find Jobs

When it comes to getting a job it's said that what really matters is who you know, and this year Friday Staffing celebrates 35 years of knowing--and working with--Asheville-area employers looking to hire, and matching them with ideal candidates.

“At Friday Staffing, we've spent the past 35 years helping people find jobs in Western North Carolina. In that time, we've built strong relationships with local employers and are grateful to work with so many terrific companies, and for the chance to help make a difference in the lives of our applicants," said David Modaff, president and owner of Friday Staffing.

Friday Staffing was founded in Hendersonville in 1980. The staffing agency now has offices in Arden, Morganton, and Hendersonville, and provides staffing services for professional, administrative, industrial, and technical industries. At any given time, between 400 to 800 employees work for Friday's and are paid weekly.

There's a perception that the Asheville job market can be notoriously difficult to crack, but Modaff sees the other side, and the data is encouraging. According to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Asheville metro area's unemployment rate stood at 4 percent in December, down from 5 percent in the same month a year ago. Last October, the national unemployment rate fell below 6% for the first time since 2008. Around the same time, Friday Staffing reported that permanent employment obtained through their staffing agency increased 135% compared to the numbers in 2008.

"Employers need skilled workers and we've been able to perfect our system over the last 35 years, to help pair the right applicants for the right job," said Modaff.

Wendy Whitaker, a Staffing Generalist at Friday Staffing who has been with the company for 18 years, has seen Friday's adapt to the changing job market over the past two decades.

“People think of a staffing agency as only temporary, but it’s much more than that. We work with area employers to help them find the right candidates for their organization. With Friday’s, an employer can request a trial period with a prospective employee through a “Working interview,” where the employee can work from 4 hours to a full day to months with the employer, to make sure they have the skills needed and determine if the employee will be a good fit.”

In addition to placing applicants, Friday Staffing offers self-guided computer software training, as well as holiday pay and vacation pay to eligible employees. Those that work full time at Friday's are also eligible for an affordable insurance plan, 401K, and an employee assistance program.

"We never tell people they can't work for us," said Nicole Levy, Staffing Generalist. "They may not be a fit at this time, but that could change tomorrow, and we tell them how they can improve to become a better fit."

"Our mission is to better people's lives and help them towards success," Levy added.

To celebrate their 35th year in business, Friday Staffing will roll out a series of stories on their blog that explores the milestones and successes they've had over the years. Those who have worked for Friday Staffing and want to provide a testimonial for the anniversary stories can reach out to Mandy Garner at for information on how to participate.
