Drums and maracas are central to this musical style, which was declared a "Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2001.
The performance is a continuation of the Chapels Summer Sounds on the Plaza series. "As a sacred space dedicated to cross-cultural understanding, Rothko Chapel is excited to invite Walagante for what will surely be a fun and beautiful performance," public programs director Michelle Ashton said. "We look forward to an evening of dance and celebration of culture."
