University of Pittsburgh Star Launches Summer Youth Basketball Academy

(Pittsburgh, PA) – June 6, 2014 University of Pittsburgh star, Ashton Gibbs launches the Ashton Gibbs Basketball Academy (AGBA) beginning on June 10-August 10, 2014. The academy sessions will take place every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 7:30a.m.-9:30a.m. and 6:00p.m-8:00p.m. It is designed for boys and girls of all skill levels, ages 6-16. The academy will be held at the historical Mellon Park in the Shadyside neighborhood.  Registration fees range from $25-65 per session for each participant.

The goal of the academy is to provide each child with the essential fundamentals of basketball, including ball handling, shooting, passing, rebounding, defense, team play, and more. The academy offers individual instruction, skill development, and 3 on 3 basketball games. Individual shooting techniques and offensive agility are emphasized. The participants will be separated by age and play two games weekly.

Ashton Gibbs, USA Basketball gold medalist and international professional player, will lead the academy, along with volunteer coaches and active collegiate and professional players. The academy will provide bottled water, sports drinks, and a healthy snack for each child. To register for the academy, interested persons should send requests to: agibbsbballacademy@gmail.com

Ashton Gibbs is a no stranger to accolades, holding titles, such as Big East Player of the Year, All-Big East First Team Selection, and 3-point Score Leader in Pitt history, but he has never let his achievements change his humble demeanor.
