Your final year project (BE or ME) is very significant in the following ways:
1) One can increase the overall percentage by scoring 90 to 95% marks through a good project.
2) An industry-oriented project could add extra weight to the resume and helps to get a good job in the core mechanical industry. A technically good project is of an added advantage if one is planning for higher studies in UK, US, Germany etc. Hence, its quite worthy to make the final year project valuable even if it costs a little more time and effort.

1) Experimental Projects:
This type of projects require good lab-facilities and hi-tech instruments for measuring the experimental set-up accurately. But only IITs and IISc have such facilities. Students from Tier II and private colleges try their utmost, but mostly end-up in cooking-up the results or change the project at the last moment due to non-unavailability of the above facilities. Since it also involves more time and cost for setting up the project for those students who are already tightly scheduled with final-exams or campus interviews, this type of feasibility is for those candidates who don’t have much lesser constraints.
2) Design Projects:
CAE Projects like stress analysis, dynamic analysis etc. of auto, aero or mechanical systems can be done through these projects. New designs, improving performance and optimization can be accomplished. FEM based software like NASTRAN, ANSYS, RADIOSS, HYPERMESH etc. can be utilised.
CFD Projects like flow and thermal analysis, aerodynamics improvement are the typical projects. This use software like FLUENT, STAR-CCM+ for CFD analysis. Accuracy and flexibility are the major advantages in this type of projects. But it needs some additional training.
Interviewers give more weightage for good projects.
CAE or CFD projects in automobile and aerospace systems have more job opportunities in India, japan, US and Europe.
