OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Nov. 21, 2014 – The Sonshine School hosted an event recently on the important topic of window covering cord safety as well as other child safety aspects.
Hunter Douglas, the leading brand of custom window fashions and One Stop Decorating, Kansas City’s largest independent full-line decorating resource and a Hunter Douglas Gallery® Dealer with dynamic display environments and expert salespeople, donated Applause® honeycomb shades with a cordless lifting system for the classrooms of this Christian child care center.
This important initiative was timed to coincide with October’s Window Covering Safety Month, which is intended to increase consumer awareness associated with the potential hazards of window coverings with accessible cords that can form loops.
Providing Kid’s Day Out and Preschool programs for 120 children from 100 families, the Sonshine School is located at 13400 W. 119th Street in Overland Park.
One Stop worked with the school to select, measure and install the shades.
The evening reception included remarks by Steve Roellchen, One Stop Decorating Owner, President and CEO; Joe Jankoski, Hunter Douglas Vice President of Corporate Merchandising; and Katie Schatte, Coordinator for Safe Kids Johnson County, a program of the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment.
Said Joe Jankoski, “This community effort will dramatically reduce the potential risk of entanglement because these Hunter Douglas products have no accessible cords. These products also provide excellent insulation to keep the kids warmer in winter and cooler in summer.”
"We thank Hunter Douglas and One Stop Decorating for the donation,” concluded Sue Zawicki, a Director of the Sonshine School. “It underscores the importance of keeping window covering cords out of a child’s reach.”
Representatives from Charlie’s House, a children’s non-profit which is dedicated to safety in and around the home, attended as well.
