Affordable New ElliptiGO Arc Helps Patients Return Quickly to Activity

SAN DIEGO, Calif (March 1, 2016) – An invention that was created to help one injured man remain active has grown into a company that helps people around the world prevent and recover from injuries and regain a level of activity many thought they would never again have. ElliptiGO, creators of the world’s first elliptical bicycle, will be showcasing its newest bike at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) annual meeting March 1-5 in Orlando, Fla. The Arc is the company’s lightest and most affordable model, retailing for $1299. ElliptiGO will have the Arc and the original long-stride bike model available in booth #3515.

ElliptiGO bikes offer a fun and highly effective addition to the traditional rehabilitation activities of swimming, cycling and the indoor elliptical machine. As a weight-bearing exercise, riding an ElliptiGO bike helps patients prevent muscle atrophy and maintain bone density. In addition, the natural “stand up” riding position reduces stress on the neck and back, while completely eliminating seat pain, making it more comfortable and enjoyable than a traditional bicycle for most patients.

One of the most-appreciated benefits of ElliptiGO bikes is that they were designed for outdoor use, as opposed to being confined to indoor gym equipment. It’s a unique complement to many rehabilitation programs because it not only allows for higher intensity workouts to take place earlier in therapy, but it also enhances a patient’s mental well-being and rehab protocol compliance.

“ElliptiGO was born from my desire to solve a personal health problem,” said Bryan Pate, ElliptiGO CEO. “In 2005, I was a runner and Ironman triathlete, but after years of pounding from running, my knees just couldn’t take it anymore. I tried cycling and indoor elliptical trainers, but cycling was very uncomfortable and I couldn’t stand being cooped up in a gym. After searching in vain for something else that would let me enjoy a low-impact running-like experience outdoors, I sketched out what became the ElliptiGO bike. Now, we have more than 15,000 bikes on the road, helping people recover from hip replacements, and all kinds of knee, back, spine and neck issues.”

Joshua Johnston, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, said, “the ElliptiGO provides an innovative, whole-body cardiovascular and muscular endurance workout without the impact-loading inherent with running or the biomechanical issues associated with cycling. I have recommended it to runners slowed by chronic degenerative disease, patients with overuse and repetitive stress injuries, serious athletes looking for low-impact, high-yield cross-training activities, and to those in post-surgical rehabilitation.”
