Miami, Florida (November 14, 2014) Thousands of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade children will be schooled on the proper way to floss and brush their teeth and learn good dietary practices, as part of the Children's Oral Health Institute's Lessons In a Lunch Box: Healthy Teeth Essentials & Facts About Snacks Program. The annual national effort will provide students with an exclusively designed lunch box and dental carrot case, as a daily reminder for them to eat healthy and to clean their teeth after meals.
The Miami-Dade County Dental Society is spearheading the effort in South Florida for the very first time. Lessons in a Lunchbox will offer services, mentoring and workshops for children at BridgePrep Academy Charter School on 137 N.E. 19th Street, November 18th from 8:30am-10:30am. Dr. John Nelson, owner of Midtown Dental Miami and President of the Miami-Dade County Dental Society, is among members of organized dentistry, including student dentists, hygienists and other volunteers expected to visit Title One schools that are registered for the program.
Demand for the lunch box and dental carrot case has increased since the initiative was introduced in 2008 by CEO and Founder Dr. Winifred Booker.
"We are excited to participate in Lessons in a Lunchbox, said Dr. Nelson. It's very important to encourage our youth to begin these kinds of healthy habits early and this is an outstanding way to do just that," he added.
