Actress/Filmmaker SALINA DUPLESSIS Temps Fate in Celebrated Dark Comedy Short “MY NAME IS KARMA”

WEST COAST PREMIERE AT PAN AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL ON FEBRUARY 7, 2015

LOS ANGELES (February 2, 2015) – Actress/Filmmaker SALINA DUPLESSIS temps fate with her award-winning dark comedy short film, MY NAME IS KARMA, making its west coast premiere at the 23rd annual Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) on February 7th.

MY NAME IS KARMA follows the young and seemingly successful Robin Clarke (Duplessis), whose only downfall is her deadbeat boyfriend, Garrett (Rashod Freelove). When he stands her up on her birthday, a desperate Robin unknowingly incites the help of Karma personified who magically gives her the power to make sure that Garrett’s ‘Karma’ catches up with him.

The 19-minute film hit the festival circuit recently, premiering at the Urban MediaMakers Film Festival where it was awarded the ‘Best Comedy Short Film’. Duplessis is thrilled by the attention and praise she’s received for her first outing as a writer and director, adding “I'm delighted with what I was able to accomplish with this project. Even though one of the main themes of this film is revenge, this really is a story about self-confidence and self-reliance. As a female filmmaker it is very important for me to explore women's perspectives, so I tend to focus on relationships and sexuality in my work. Although this film is a dark comedy, it has an important message. If I can touch one person's life or help someone reflect on their decisions and behavior I would have accomplished what I set out to do. I feel as though women have the power to rule the world but we often give that power away. I'm here to change that dynamic one film at a time.”

Since earning her BA in Acting from the University of Southern California, Duplessis has starred in several films, most notably opposite Rolonda Watts and Vanessa A. Williams in “A Mothers Love.” She also starred in the Syfy Network TV movie “American Horror House,” alongside Morgan Fairchild and directed by Darin Scott. While at USC, Duplessis wrote, produced and performed in her one-woman show, “My Volcano,” under the direction of award winning writer and performance artist Luis Alfaro.

Salina Duplessis is represented by Luber Roklin.
