When Governor Shumlin brought the nation's attention to Vermont's heroin crisis, the New York Times chose to focus its article on Bennington. The students at Mount Anthony Union High School took issue with the characterization, but town officials immediately started organizing around the issue. In addition, adding to the town's woes, the Plasan Carbon Composites announced it was closing, taking 143 jobs with it.
Vermont Edition, VPR’s daily public affairs program, will broadcast live from Madison Brewing Company in Downtown Bennington on Monday, July 14. Jane Lindholm will host a conversation with town leaders about how they’re dealing with the opiate crisis, how the economy is faring, and how Bennington thinks of itself in relation to the rest of the state.
The show will air at noon in front of a live audience at Madison Brewing Company at 428 Main Street. To cover the live broadcast please contact Producer Sage Van Wing at email@example.com or 802-654-4318.
