Irvine Barclay Theatre is presenting its Fifth Season of the Popular Theater Screenings

Next Up: A Midsummer Night’s Dream from the director of The Lion King, Julie Taymor

Shot in high definition and shown on the Barclay's giant screen.

Irvine Barclay Theatre is presenting its fifth season of the popular theater screenings. The season began in July with Man and Superman, starring Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes.

Three plays screened at the Barclay last season were awarded 2015 Tony awards: The Audience (Helen Mirren, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play; Richard McCabe, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play); The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (Best Play, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play); Skylight (Best Revival of a Play).

The series has grown significantly at the Barclay, with an ever-widening audience necessitating additional screenings. In 2012, the popular screenings garnered an OC Weekly “Best Of" award.

Recorded from the Theatre for a New Audience at Polonsky Shakespeare Center in Brooklyn, NY

From the director of The Lion King, Julie Taymor (Frida, The Magic Flute), comes a cinematic experience of the much heralded and sold-out production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream with music by Oscar-winning composer, Elliot Goldenthal (Frida, Heat), cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto (Birdman, Wolf of Wall Street) and stellar performances by David Harewood, Tina Benko, Max Casella and Kathryn Hunter.

Review
"The director who redefined spectacle on Broadway… has now given New York A Midsummer Night’s Dream that doesn’t so much reach for the heavens as roll around in them … For Ms. Taymor, the sky is not the limit, it’s a supple canvas to be stretched and bent to the whims of the imagination."The New York Times.
