About the LoudermilkYoung Debate Series

In 2011 R. Charles “Charlie” Loudermilk, pledged $1 million to permanently endow the Atlanta Press Club’s series of political debates during every election year in Georgia. In honor of Loudermilk’s close friendship with former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, the debates were named the Atlanta Press Club Loudermilk‐Young Debate Series. Loudermilk is a conservative white Republican businessman while Young is a liberal African‐American Democrat civil rights leader, preacher, former Atlanta mayor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Their close collaboration despite their political differences symbolizes the tone that the Loudermilk‐Young Debate Series hopes to set in our state's political discourse.
