Jax Fish House and Cinder Block Brewery collaboration marries oysters and beer for a Kansas City first

The exclusive Emersum Oyster Stout, brewed with Jax’s proprietary Emersum oysters, will pour at Jax and Cinder Block during February only

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 29, 2016) – Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar is teaming up with Cinder Block Brewery to bring Kansas City a beer that it has never before seen locally – an oyster stout. The Emersum Oyster Stout will tap on Monday, Feb. 1 at Jax and the Cinder Block Brewery tasting room. The stout will pour exclusively during the month of February, Jax’s self-proclaimed Oyster Month, but supply is limited. The stout is brewed with Jax’s proprietary Emersum Oysters, which add a natural minerality and create a smooth viscosity to the beer.

Jax’s Emersum Oysters are a wholly sustainable oyster harvested by the Rappahannock River Oyster Company, located off the Chesapeake Bay in eastern Virginia. Every Emersum oyster is raised in Jax’s private oyster waters, which provides a certainty of freshness and “merroir,” meaning that all Emersum Oysters will taste consistent because of the surrounding aquatic environment.

Jax’s Oyster Month will be highlighted by Jax’s second annual oyster eating competition on Saturday, Feb. 27 with a grand prize of $1,000 cash. Guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy weekly food and drink specials all month created by Chef de Cuisine Theresia Ota and Lead Bartender Kenny Cohrs. And ten cents per every Emersum oyster shucked at Jax during the month of February will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Mid-America Chapter.
