Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is proud to present her humanitarian initiative, FBMI, at Design Days Dubai 2016 from 14-18 March. For this 2016 edition, FBMI is thrilled to present for the first time H. H. Sheikha Mariam Khalifa Bin Saif's rug specially designed for FBMI 'Artists for Change' program.
Sheikha Mariam Khalifa Bin Saif is the granddaughter of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and daughter of Sheikh Khalifa bin Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan and Sheikha Moza bint Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative, FBMI, launched a new program of collaboration between UAE artists and underprivileged artisans in Afghanistan. The new program called 'Artists For Change' aims to raise awareness of the plight of disadvantaged artisans as well as promote their talent and capabilities.
Answering the call to FBMI 'Artists for Change' program, Sheikha Mariam came up with a stunning and unique design that was subsequently woven by FBMI weavers in Afghanistan. She has replicated her famous trademark, the dove, that it is often featured on her dazzling jewellery collection ' MKS jewels'.
Sheikha Mariam's rug has then been set up on a table, itself made out of a carpet loom, giving an unfinished look to the rug. The 'Carpet Table' will be showcased for the first time at FBMI booth at DDD 2016.
Alongside the 'Carpet Table' and in tone with its colours and design, FBMI will display its new Antique Wash rug collection, a fine, socially-conscious Afghan carpets collection.
FBMI A11 booth at Design Days Dubai 2016 - on display:
1. As part of 'Artists for Change' program - Sheikha Mariam 'rug carpet loom table'.
2. The new Antique Wash collection by FBMI. Antique Wash Finish, the term given to a compound wash, reproduces the effects of age. The brightest colors can be adjusted to smooth pastels through oxidation. The texture becomes softer and the overall feel is of a museum rug.
The five-day event will be held at The Venue, Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai. To learn more about FBMI and Design Days, please visit their websites at www.fbmi.ae and www.designdaysdubai.ae.
