A rare feat: Jax Fish House's Rick Compton becomes dually certified cicerone and sommelier

Compton significantly increases beer and wine options at Jax

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 7, 2015) - Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar has added five times more bottled beer selections and 20 percent more wine to its wine list. The expansion of these lists comes shortly after General Manager Rick Compton received his certification as a cicerone. Compton already had his sommelier certification. Only a handful of people in the country have been certified as both a cicerone and a sommelier, and an even smaller number of those dually certified live in Missouri. 

The quintupled beer list features a variety of brews that include local favorites and foreign novelties alike. The Duchesse de Bourgogne, a Flanders Red ale from Belgium, pairs well with the many food offerings at Jax. Additional Boulevard beers also appear on the list, and more will come with special releases and allocations. Avery's Czar, a Russian Imperial Stout, is Jax’s nod to the coming cooler months with a beer that parallels warmth. 

Jax’s wine list has expanded to include wines that pair nicely with Jax specialties. The Chartogne-Taillet 'Cuvee St. Anne' Brut from the region of champagne pairs well with West Coast oysters. The 2012 Sea Smoke 'Streamside' Chardonnay can be enjoyed by itself or paired with white fish, such as halibut or swordfish. Those searching for a great value wine can try Lioco 'Indica' Carignan, a red wine that is light and pairs well with all Jax cuisine.

With the significant wine and beer additions, the Kansas City location now boasts the most expansive beer and wine lists of all the Jax locations.
