Barrel 31, Whiskey and Bourbon Inspired Casual American Restaurant, Open Now in Union Hill

KANSAS CITY, MO. (April 2, 2014) – Barrel 31 is now open and provides guests the opportunity to experience one of Kansas City’s widest variety of bourbons and whiskeys from around the globe. Alongside its bourbons and whiskeys, Barrel 31 offers a full-service, new-American dining experience with refined comfort cuisine and innovative libations. 

Open in Kansas City’s Union Hill district at 400 E 31st St., Barrel 31 has remodeled a 120-year-old building, creating a chic and urban atmosphere with aged wood floors, exposed brick walls and rustic, contemporary décor. Barrel 31’s unique interior seats approximately 150 diners in a 3,000-square-foot space and includes three separate floors with the third floor available for private dining options. Full service dining is available daily on the main level and mezzanine. An outdoor patio, which will be one of Kansas City’s largest, is being developed now and will open at some point in the spring.

About the Menu

The Barrel 31 menu features creative comfort cuisine made from its all-scratch kitchen that includes a wide selection of small plates, hearty sandwiches and distinctive entrees. In addition to daily lunch and dinner service, Barrel 31 offers brunch every Saturday and Sunday. The executive chef for Barrel 31, Austin Carpenter, brings years of experience in the restaurant industry with previous stints at Kansas City’s Grand Street Café, Bella Napoli, Bluestem and Ya Ya’s Euro Bistro. The Overland Park native graduated with a culinary degree from Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colo.

Duck Confit Chicken Wings – Glazed with tangy bbq or spicy habanero sauce

Three Pig Dip – Pork belly, pulled pork, applewood smoked bacon, whiskey-braised mushroom and onions, swiss, pig-jus

Bring on the Beef – Barrel 31 blend: Ground brisket, chuck, steak trimmings, duck fat 

Fahrenheit 151 – Swiss, roasted jalapeño, bacon, hot onion ring, habapeño aioli, arugula

About the Cocktail Menu

The Barrel 31 cocktail menu is heavily influenced by whiskey and bourbon, offering 60 – 80 varieties of whiskey and bourbons from around the globe and a thoughtful array of libations ringing true to its name. Bourbon and whiskey flights and thoughtfully paired boiler maker shooters are also on the menu. In addition to whiskey and bourbon, Barrel 31 offers a fully stocked bar with American craft beers and “Paper Bag Special,” a random selection grabbed by the bartender and sold at a discounted price – in a brown, paper bag.

Barrel 31 will happy hour from 3:00 – 6:47 p.m., Monday – Friday. At 6:47 p.m., last call of happy hour, shots of Jack Daniels and Jack Daniels Honey will cost just $3 in an homage to Jack Daniel himself, who, as legends has it, died of an infection he sustained in his big toe from kicking a safe out of frustration that he forgot the combination to. Allegedly, Mr. Daniels died at 6:47 p.m.
