Whiteley wins TAFC at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April 12, 2015) – Annie Whiteley turned consistently fast passes on a new Goodyear tire and won the Top Alcohol Funny Car trophy at the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

It was the second win in a national event for Whiteley and her first in two seasons.

“I’m just very proud of my team,” Whiteley said. “I’m very proud that we got to go down the track after all the testing and now the car seems to be happy.”

The new tire is Goodyear’s D3122 racing slick. The new tire is aimed at cars in the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car categories. The new offering measures 34.5 inches tall, 17 inches across the tread face and mounts on a 16-inch wheel.

Goodyear’s development process completed the D3122 recently. The Las Vegas Nationals was the first race for the tire.

“It lets us go down the track, every pass,” said Whiteley. “It was very consistent. I think our worst pass, our shift light didn’t work and I hit the rev chip. Other than that, we were between (5.)60 (seconds) and (5.)61, every pass.”

The road to the finals was a tough one. Whiteley’s margin of victory in the semi-final round was .001 of a second.

Goodyear employs about 67,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
