(LANDER) – Fremont Symphony Orchestra Conductor Rebecca Murdock has announced the annual Spring Concert program for Saturday, March 14. The 7 p.m. Saturday concert is in the Lander Valley High School Concert Hall. Concert tickets ($ 10 / person; $ 20 / family) are available at the door. A reception follows the concert.
Murdock said the concert theme is "Legends," as reflected in musical works depicting mythology, folklore and stories.
The program includes works by 19th and 20th century American and European composers. It features two instrumental wind solos by Debussy. Central Wyoming College Director of Bands Jason Ogg will perform “Rhapsodie for Saxophone and Orchestra”. Central Wyoming College Adjunct Music Instructor and clarinetist Laura Ogg will perform “Girl with the Flaxen Hair”.
Other concert selections include the "Tune from County Derry," in honor of upcoming St. Patrick's Day; music from the film, "Lord of the Rings"; Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony; the "Adagio" from Aram Khachaturian's 1954 ballet, "Spartacus and Phrygia;" and the "Dance of the Knights" (Montagues and Capulets) from Sergei Prokofiev's 1935 ballet, "Romeo and Juliet."
The Imperial Orchestra, a string orchestra educational group composed of younger players and older students, will also perform selections from the Walt Disney 2013 movie, "Frozen."
Murdock said the mid-March concert concludes the Fremont County Orchestra’s 28th winter season.
Although most symphony orchestra members live within Fremont County, orchestra performers also come from several other Wyoming communities.
The upcoming concert is supported in part by grants from the Lander Community Foundation, the Lander District Recreation Board and area businesses.
