Florida-Based NeuroSpine Institute Opens New Surgical Center in Park City, Utah

World-Renowned Neurosurgeon Robert Masson, M.D., Brings Spine Surgery Innovations to Active Mountain Community

For two decades, the Florida-based NeuroSpine Institute (NSI) has been a global medical destination for active lifestyle patients interested in extreme and rapid recovery. Now, internationally renowned neurosurgeon Robert Masson, M.D., is proud to announce the opening of a second location to better serve patients in the western United States and Canada.

Dr. Masson has opened Restitute PC, a 21,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility in Park City, Utah, one of the world’s top international skiing centers. Kenneth S. Yonemura, M.D., will serve as the center’s medical director.

“Restitute PC is a multidisciplinary practice for exceptional care, and I’m thrilled Dr. Yonemura will be there to provide the world-class care that our patients have come to expect,” says Dr. Masson.

Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Yonemura completed a spine fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix and has spent his career caring for patients that have travelled from all parts of the country.

His practice has evolved to focus primarily on complex spine and peripheral nerve disorders. He has been an FDA investigator for both lumbar and cervical interbody fusion cages, as well as motion preservation techniques that include artificial disc and facet replacement technology. Dr. Yonemura also has been actively involved in the development of minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of cervical and lumbar disc disease, including the design of one of the first generation percutaneous pedicle screw systems.

Dr. Yonemura is looking forward to expanding his practice at Restitute PC and will be performing outpatient spine and peripheral nerve surgery at the ambulatory surgery center. He is also available to see patients at satellite offices in Bountiful and Salt Lake City.

“We have a surgery center upstairs,” says Dr. Masson. “In addition to our NeuroSpine Institute offices downstairs, we will assemble a team of the best specialists in the world in orthopedics, hand, podiatry and aesthetic plastic surgery services to create a world-class restoration health destination.”

The new practice fulfills a decades-old dream for Dr. Masson, who has long believed a major spine institute is perfectly suited for a mountain location.

“I’ve always been inspired by Dr. Richard Steadman and Dr. James Andrews, who have been instrumental in the transformation of American orthopedics by helping create the subspecialty of sports orthopedics,” Dr. Masson says. “I’m working to advance spine reconstruction surgery to a level where extreme recovery from major spine injuries is commonplace. I’m passionate about pursuing spine wellness, spine surgery and spine recovery from a sports perspective and not just for professional athletes but for all active lifestyle men and women. There’s something very special about Park City and I’m so excited to get this practice up and running.”

Specializing in sports spine medicine and employing minimally invasive techniques and cutting edge technologies that he developed, Dr. Masson is a leading force in transforming spine care worldwide and the Florida-based NSI is already a worldwide medical destination for active lifestyle patients interested in extreme and rapid recovery.

With this new center, Dr. Masson and his team will be able to serve more patients than ever.

Like Dr. Masson, Dr. Yonemura also has a passion for athletics and understands the special needs of both amateur and professional athletes. An avid cyclist himself, Dr. Yonemura is a USA Cycling Cat 3 masters racer and was the medical director for the Tour of Utah stage race from 2008-2011. He has become a USAC official and especially enjoys working as a motorcycle referee. Dr. Yonemura is a team neurosurgeon to many of the US Olympic Teams based out of Park City and is also involved with the Think Head First concussion treatment program..

“Dr. Yonemura shares my commitment to helping our patients recover at a high performance level,” Dr. Masson says. “The type of patients we typically see in Park City are those who are committed to outdoor sports, such as skiing, biking, fishing, hiking, rock climbing and mountain climbing. When they have injuries, they are very motivated and they want to bounce back quickly, which aligns perfectly with our philosophy of helping people recover from their injuries in order to get back to their high-performance lives.”

NeuroSpine Institute is committed to intervertebral Microsurgical Access Solutions and is prepared to do outpatient neck and low back decompressions, reconstructions and artificial disc surgeries. As a world leader in outpatient spine surgery, NSI is able to offer its patients rapid recovery solutions and reduced hospital-associated risk in an outpatient setting focused on wellness and extreme recovery.

While Orlando will remain NSI’s global headquarters, Restitute PC becomes a major western operational base providing the opportunity to not only help more patients but also train more surgeons.

“I’m extremely excited and I’m extremely proud. We’re passionate about helping patients return to the kind of active lifestyle that makes life exceptional and this is a very big step for us,” Masson says.
